The whitening treatment itself involves the use of a solution which is painted onto each tooth. The active ingredient in this solution is activated by a blue light. This allows the solution to gently whiten your teeth.

Take home whitening
If like many patients you would prefer to whiten your teeth in the comfort and privacy of your own home at times more suited to your busy lifestyle, then a professional take home whitening treatment from the Bexley Dental team is for you.

Using custom-made whitening trays, similar in appearance to a sports mouthguard only much finer, they are shaped from a detailed mould of your mouth.  This will ensure they fit snugly over your teeth allowing for maximum contact with your tooth’s enamel while still protecting your gums.

We will provide you with instructions on the use of your gel and trays so you achieve maximum results, the amount of gel to apply to your trays and how long they should be worn, usually between 1 -2 hours a day. Although it is possible to achieve the same final result using the at home system as the in-chair treatment, as the gel is not as concentrated, your desired shade may take between 10 – 12 days to achieve, however a noticeable improvement can often be seen after only a few days.

The whitening gel we choose to provide has undergone extensive testing to ensure it completely safe for your teeth and gums. The only side effect some patients may experience is some sensitivity to hot and cold, this should only last for several hours following the completion of your treatment. The most common cause of ongoing sensitivity is from wearing your trays too long.
